I have four pieces of work in the 'Art in the Church' exhibition at St. Mary's Church in the Marsh, Higham as part of Medway Open Studios. The works on display are a mixture of both my drawings and paintings, of the Marshes around the church. You can read about their origins in the Mudlark.
St. Mary's, the pretty little church that is the venue for this exhibition, is no longer used for regular worship. Interestingly it has strong connections to Charles Dickens, having once been his parish church, and also where his daughter was married. It sits in the marshland of the Hoo peninsula, a landscape which inspired Dickens when creating the setting for Great Expectations.
Medway Open Studios Programme for 2015
As part of the Medway Open Studios event the church will host the works of local artists. The works will be in any medium – art, craft, music or film – with any subject, although we are inviting artists to include pieces of art that reflect the church and its surrounds – the building, the churchyard, the marsh or the river. The church will open for visitors on the two days – so come along and enjoy the artworks.
Event on 25th and 26th July from 11.00am to 5.00pm
Entrance: Adults £2 Children free – No need to book – pay on the door.
